Hello Viewers, Good Morning ! Hope you are well :)


Today’s blog is all about on 3 Farm Bills:


1. The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation)Act , 2020

2. The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020

3. The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020

were passed in parliament and President gave his assent on 27th September, 2020. Farmers from Punjab, Haryana and some other parts protesting against these reforms. Central Government and Farmer leaders have discussed on this farm bills for 11 times but still not having breakthrough on cards. SC also formed a committee to examine farm laws and stay on implementation of these laws till appointed committee finds solution. Farmers also rejected government's proposal to stay farm laws for 18 months.


Need for this Farm Reforms :

1. Insufficient Market: Not enough market to deal with growing produce.


2. Market Fees & Charges: Taxes, various commissions raised the cost of final produce which reduces the income to Farmers.

3. High Intermediation Cost: Raising cost for consumers and depressing prices received by Farmers.

4. Inadequate Infrastructure - Despite market taxes, infrastructure in markets remain developing and not in tune with supply chains.


Benefits of Farm Laws in Nutshell :


Most of the above reforms being suggested by M.S. Swaminathan chaired national commission on agriculture in 2006.


Myth & Realities of New Farm Laws :


There are lots of statistics, debates and Articles available on Internet on New Farm Bills. We also have witnessed lots of things happening related to Farmers Protest so we need to have facts on our side . It's advisable to go through barred act and then select our stand.
